Abstract :
The implementation of an expert system making possible online fault diagnosis on a complex data acquisition system, a particle detector, designed for the MACRO (Monopoles, Astrophysics and Cosmic Ray Observatory) physics investigations is outlined. The system, called MADIES (Macro Diagnostic Expert System), is designed to take appropriate control actions in order to reduce the unavailability of the apparatus.
