Abstract
The DC brushless motor often utilises a fixed commutation scheme. Control over the motor is usually exercised via current regulation in a manner similar to the techniques used with the DC brush motor. There are advantages in adopting a more integrated approach by including the commutation scheme as an integral part of the control scheme. This paper reports an investigation into the characteristics and application of such schemes. It is expected that these schemes will have cost benefits based on the ability to adapt relatively simple and nonideal hardware to a wider application base
