Abstract
This paper presents a new ZVS-PWM reduced-switch three-phase inverter that can work bidirectionally for applications where energy storage or energy harvesting is involved. Switching losses are reduced due to a simple auxiliary circuit that provides ZVS condition for all the switches, including the auxiliary switches. The auxiliary switches are used for only a small fraction of every switching cycle and, thus, do not interfere with the main operation of the inverter. In the paper, the operation of the proposed inverter is explained in detail, and its feasibility is confirmed with results obtained from an experimental prototype.
