Abstract :
In this paper, we present the first demonstration to our knowledge of diode-pumped Nd:YAG laser at 938 nm. Because of the low absorption cross section at 938 nm in Nd:YAG, we used a thin and long crystal rod in order to confine the pump beam into the gain medium. The absorption length was extended by guiding the pump beam by total internal reflections on the rod surfaces.
