Abstract :
This paper presents how Cisco router differentiated services (DiffServ) mechanisms can be used to support Military oriented quality of service in national or coalition multimedia networks where two bandwidth-rich DiffServ domains are connected by a single, bandwidth-impoverished link creating a point of congestion. Based on the results obtained from an experimental testbed, the paper shows how Cisco policing, shaping, WRED and CBWFQ mechanisms can provide military precedence and graceful degradation in QoS for some chosen TCP/UDP traffic types. Some flow admission control approaches that can be implemented using bandwidth brokers in the considered environment are also described in the paper.
