  • Abstract
London Underground´s Central Line refurbishment project encompasses the complete refurbishment of the line including the provision of new trains, signalling systems and power supply systems. The power supplies refurbishment concerns renewal of all life expired equipment and the enhancement of equipment to meet increased demands for traction loads to a peak service loading of 36 trains per hour and the upgrading of power feeds to maintenance depots. When finished the total project will have cost approximately £700 m of which approximately £50 m will have been spent on the power system refurbishment. The work has been conducted in three stages of which the last was the Eastern section from Bethnal Green substation to Epping substation which is the subject of this paper
