Abstract :
The mobile Internet has reached a certain stage of preparation for the newly emerging rich media applications. Emerging smartphones are beginning to provide a new infrastructure for rich media applications on mobile handsets. The constraints of the smartphones still require careful software design in order to achieve a rich media user experience. We present a hybrid software architecture to cope with this challenge. We outline the requirements and overall design of the proposed software architecture. Then, we present results from a case study of magazine viewers. The proposed architecture provides improved time to market and improved performance for large sized image data in magazine applications.
