Abstract :
To avoid severe outages of major transmission facilities and loss of generation under emergency situations, a knowledge-based system has been built to develop a plan of action for eliminating multiple transmission line overloads within an interconnected power system. The primary corrective strategies for alleviating excessive loading of transmission lines are to shift generation and to shed loads. The proposed knowledge-based system consists of two programs. The analysis program (i.e. the power flow program) is coded in FORTRAN. It is used for checking the feasibility of the immediate steps in the plan of action. The decision-oriented program is coded in sigma-Prolog. It is used for performing symbolic computation. Results obtained with this system are presented
