Abstract :
Objects provide a familiar metaphor to users for many computing tasks, but operating systems confuse matters with the implementation-oriented concept of an application. Based on the author´s experience developing InterViews, a sizeable C++ class library for user interfaces, he believes the integration of language and operating system execution environments is the key to creating a coherent, dynamic, and extensible object-oriented user environment. Such an environment must have a transparent compiler so that users have the semantics of interpretation without sacrificing performance
