Abstract :
Because of non-stationary radar clutter, radar target detection under clutter should use CFAR techniques. Generally the methods employing CFAR detectors estimate the clutter energy of the test cell and uses it to control the detection threshold. This paper discusses some properties of the K-distribution. It proves that the ordered statistic CFAR (OS-CFAR) detector is also of a CFAR under a K-distributed clutter background, when the shape factor is known. The performance of the detector is analyzed against a uniform clutter background. The loss of SCR in the different case is studied. For an unknown shape factor, a method to estimate it is given, and the validity of the method is tested by the Monte-Carlo method
