Abstract
The paper briefly reviews the development of the one per customer (1pC) concept up to the implementation of the technology trial. The trial equipment is described and initial results from propagation testing are discussed. The 1pC direct sequence CDMA trial system configuration has successfully demonstrated its ability to offer a 160 kb/s digital bearer suitable for analogue telephony service to four fixed RNUs and one transportable RNU. The 1pC system was capable of providing coverage to a significant proportion of the Stoke Mandeville exchange area. Successful diffracted path operation was demonstrated for paths of less than 5 km. A clear line of sight path of 18 km was demonstrated for the 1pC system with performance better than BER 10-8
