Developing international ATM services in Asia-Pacific

The asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) is usually considered within the context of broadband networks and services. The paper examines the use of ATM in developing a service independent network in the Asia-Pacific region, where local infrastructure tends to support limited capacity. A prime motivation is that ATM avoids the need to establish multiple overlay networks to support voice, data, and video traffic requirements.
