Twist drill is widely used in hole working. Its wear affects the life and machining quality. However, the mechanism of drill wear process is not revealed clearly up to now. A finite element(FE) model of twist drill wear process is established in this paper. New technologies has been adopted in modeling the twist drill, material flow stress, material failure criteria and chip-tool-workpiece contact. Also,Wear of the tool flank, rake face and chisel edge in drilling process are analyzed. According to the simulation results, the method of FE provides an effective approach to analysing the cutting tool wear process.
