Abstract

Geographic Information System based on Web is also called WebGIS which is the newest development technology of GIS. Its architecture is based on the existing technology of Internet/Intranet. WebGIS provides more widely geographic and spatial information service by widely using the Web resources, so it is the primary trend of GIS´s development on the current international. This paper analyzes the concepts and characteristics of WebGIS, anatomizes the architecture of WebGIS, discusses the key technology of WebGIS´s development, and points out the development trend of GIS technology, and give an implemented instance of GIS based on Web in which Web Services technology is used.
