  • Abstract
A fault-tolerant mechanism including topology and control strategy for multi-drive system based on indirect matrix converter is proposed in this paper, which is used for the remedial operation in case of opened switch faults and single-phase open-circuit on one of inverter circuits. Since there are a large number of switches in a multi-drive system based on indirect matrix converter, the fault-tolerant operation is achieved by reconfiguring the indirect matrix converter topology with a connecting device. Based on the reconstructed converter structure, a fault-tolerant modulation algorithm is developed to maintain ideal input/output currents and continuous driving operation. The proposed mechanism ensures improved system reliability and fault-tolerant capability without any backup leg or parallel redundancy. Simulation results verify the feasibility and validity of the proposed fault-tolerant mechanism for multi-drive system based on indirect matrix converter.
