Abstract
Environmental compatibility requires reduction of transmission line dimensions. As a consequence. An increase in the number of faults is expected. This can be compensated by improving the success of automatic reclosing. The physics of secondary arcing and the reclosing transient are analysed at uncompensated and shunt-compensated lines. Increasing the dead time is avoidable by means of adaptive single phase reclosing. Reclosing overvoltages, endangering the polluted sections of transmission lines, may be significantly reduced by a coordinated operation of MOAs and controlled switching
