Experimental verification of 2-D periodically loaded transmission line metamaterial

Abstract :
The L-C lumped-elements loaded transmission line (TL) two dimensional (2-D) network is presented as metamaterial possessing both "left handed" and "right handed" natures. The dispersion equation and diagram of the L-C loaded TL 2-D network is obtained analytically based on the Bloch-Floquet theory and Kirchhoff\´s theory, and the band structure is intuitively explained. Finally, a series of L loaded TL 2-D network was designed, and the experimentally obtained dispersion data and S21 magnitude exhibits agreement with the periodical analysis.
