A discussion is given on the continuing evolution and maturation of the study of strategic and competitive impacts of information technology. In particular, the authors address: What is the impact of information technology on the balance between cooperation and competition? How can technology affect the strategies available to firms, or the structure of firms and industries? How have firms used technology competitively? How have they used technology in cooperation with clients or with other firms in their industries? How do firms manage strategic technologies? How are global networks managed? How is the risk of large infrastructure projects controlled? How will information technology affect the balance of power in the distribution of goods and services?
