Abstract :
The discontinuous reception (DRX) mechanism is adopted in the Long Term Evolution Advanced (LTE-A) system as a core technology to lower the power consumption of user equipment. With the development of Mobile Internet, there is an increasing need to optimize the DRX parameter configuration to accommodate the mobile multimedia applications that exhibit self-similarity. In this letter, we model the LTE-A DRX mechanism under self-similar traffic based on a Discrete Time Semi-Markov Process. With our model, the power saving factor and the expectation of wake-up delay can be accurately estimated for a specific DRX parameter configuration. The accuracy of the proposed model is validated through comparison with simulation results.
