Abstract
Only recently has the MIS literature focused on the creative problem-solving literature for diminishing the seriousness and frequency of changes that occur during the system development process. Dozens of creative problem-solving techniques are applicable during the various phases of development. The paper presents examples of how different techniques might be used at each stage of development, in light of five general functions performed at each stage. These examples provide a brief illustration of the wide variety of techniques that are available. Guidelines are suggested for further research in this area
