Abstract :
Summary form only given. The STFA company is one of the largest international contracting companies and conglomerates operating in Turkey as well as in several Middle Eastern countries. Although construction still constitutes the bulk of its activities, STFA has expanded into several other areas over sixty years. It now consists of some 30 separate corporations in various industries, including shipbuilding and telecommunications. The two founding partners, who own a large portion of STFA, have decided to reorganize and transform it into a public company. The goals of the reorganization have been (a) to institutionalize STFA, (b) to build a team spirit by decentralizing decision making throughout the organization. (c) to prepare STFA to be responsive to internal and external changes, (d) to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization, and (e) to assure long-term stability and success for STFA
