Abstract
This paper examines 3S technology in application on the instream habitat assessment, based on data collection of instream habitats, information space analysis and expression and construction of habitat suitability index model (HSI model),a light of the challenges imposed by the spatial and temporal domains of aquatic ecosystems. The prospect of 3S technology used in instream habitat assessment is also analyzed. The reviewed studies have shown that 3S technology have been well established for efficient ecosystem descriptions and species modelling within a large range of scales and habitats. This effort should represent a tool-rich environment upon which researchers and practitioners can draw to provide scientifically based quantifications in support of management decisions which must protect and enhance our aquatic ecosystems.
