Abstract
The necessary bandwidth concept is extended to digital modulations. The merits of candidate measures to calculate the necessary bandwidth of digital modulations are examined. The tradeoffs among bandwidth, power, and performance for digital modulations are illustrated using bipolar phase-shift-keyed (BPSK) modulation as an example. Values of necessary bandwidths and K factors for selected digital modulations are presented
