Abstract :
An auto-orienting robotic wrist that functions in a multipath environment to point an ultrashort baseline acoustic array in the direction of first arrival of a spatially distant sound burst is presented. Developed for use underwater, the wrist will align transducers whose operation depend on being properly oriented along a time varying direction of interest. Three different algorithms for direction estimation are discussed
