Abstract :
The author conducted a thorough investigation of the science parks in Japan, which are being planned, under construction, and in service. His aims were to define science parks in Japan; to identify all the science parks in Japan; to collect data about each of them, such as official name, location, research environment, aims and features, managerial body, present state, specific regional policy set by related body, land acquisition procedure, and facilities; to analyze these data to get seven types of science parks in Japan; to establish an evaluation formula for the science parks in Japan; and to give an evaluation of each of them accordingly; to point out the important problems at the science parks in Japan, including planning procedure, land distribution policy, functional design of the central facilities, cooperation of the nearby universities, and acquisition of excellent researchers; and to suggest the prospects of science parks in Japan for the future
