Abstract
We describe a new video coding scheme using filter bank and subband motion estimation and compensation. Inmost of video coding schemes such as MPEG [2], they have problem of blocking artifacts and computational complexity in motion estimation. We use Lapped Biorthogonal Transform (LBT) instead of DCT to reduce the blocking artifacts, and use the motion estimation in subband block domain to reduce the computational complexity. Intra-frames and the difference frames between the current and predicted frames in a video sequence are encoded by Efficient Embedded Zerotree Wavelet codec (EEZW) [7]. They permit scalability, progressive transmission, and exact bit-rate control.
