Abstract
A new method to calculate the field strength in an urban environment is proposed and investigated in order to test its applicability to predict coverage of broadcasting or mobile communication systems for mobile reception. The results are verified by measurements. The prediction method developed at the Institut fur Rundfunktechnik (IRT) is based on a combination of multiple knife-edge loss and reflections from buildings in a three-dimensional urban environment. The predictions are compared with measurements carried out within the framework of project COST 231 for a scenario which is typical for mobile services.
