Abstract
This paper introduces the concept of using of risk assessment techniques as part of the management of complex engineering operations. It describes some of the basic principles of risk assessment, and illustrates their application through reference to the installation of a steel lattice type structure that would support a typical North Sea offshore hydrocarbon production platform
