Abstract :
This paper describes the trends and alternatives towards the implementation of real-time distributed systems such as interactive multi-service for the Local Area (or Enterprise) Networks. Details on new integrated circuit and system level implementation of real-time multimedia systems are provided. The family of components presented is flexible to accommodate various data rates, interconnection architectures, transfer protocols and a migration path towards cell relay technology (ATM)
