Abstract :
This paper describes how JPEG2000 still image compression codec will be enabled in the 3G wireless terminals thanks to the efficiency of TMS320C55xx DSP core embedded in the TI OMAP™. OMAP™ H/W architecture will be described, with an emphasis on how still image compression and decompression applications will benefit from this advanced architecture. The paper will also depict the advantages provided by OMAP™s DSP subsystem architecture for the Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), which is the most computation hungry JPEG2000 kernel. A final chapter will compare bit stream download time and decoding scenarios for compressed QVGA color images.
