Abstract :
A high-speed network driven by a set of ATM (asynchronous transfer mode) switches in association with CAD/DSP (computer aided diagnosis/detection and digital signal processing) algorithms has been set up for lossless delivery of data to effectively facilitate telemammography detection and diagnosis. Expanding diagnostics and treatment beyond the local level covering remote/rural underserved areas will bring better health care to a wider range of people at a potentially reduced cost. Asynchronous Transfer Mode Teleradiology Network (ATMTN) is an integrated a high-speed network with DICOM standard for the communication of medical images and CAD methods for screening, detection and diagnosis of breast cancer. This paper describes the development of ATMTN architecture and associated signal processing algorithms for digital mammography. Preliminary results show that such an integrated system can offer more effective real time health care services.
