Abstract
Teleworking is a flexible way of working which covers a wide range of work activities, all of which entail working remotely from an employer, or from a traditional place of work, for a significant proportion of work time. Under this arrangement employer and employee use telecommunications to keep in contact with each other. The various forces encouraging the move to teleworking are summarised and include: the need for more flexibility, the need to reduce costs, increased productivity, the changing economy etc. Forces against this move include: management and communication difficulties, and social isolation
