Abstract :
The paper presents a design for a handheld radio frequency identification (RFID) reader antenna operating in the ultra-high frequency band (UHF) destined for European systems. The antenna system is comprised of an active meandered dipole next to a passive reflector. Measurements of the a prototype confirm that the design has a good gain, reasonable bandwidth and a low back lobe radiation. In addition, it is a low profile compact design that is easy to manufacture.
