Abstract :
A holographic grating writing capability in optical fibre has now been firmly established within the GIFTS consortium. Gratings written by both excimer and argon ion laser have been produced with high reflectivity and linewidths in the range 0.5 to 20nm. Several applications of gratings in sensor and telecommunication systems have been identified and demonstrated
