Abstract :
A new, type of lead acid battery for telecommunications is presented. Its main design features are: Multitubolar positive plate Antimony free positive grid This battery can perform very low maintenance with negligible. open circuit losses and longer service life. Results of tests are reported and significant data from field, regarding two experimental high capacity batteries, in float service since 5 years in an italian telephone exchange of "Società Italiana per l\´Esercizio Telefonico". Maintenance cost improvements and advantages in photovoltaic or wind power installations are also discussed.
