Abstract :
A feasibility study to establish possible basic parameters for a new synchrotron radiation source has been carried out at the Daresbury Laboratory of The Central Laboratory for the Research Councils (UK). The paper presents the requirements for powering a number of major components of the 3 GeV storage ring and the full energy booster synchrotron. These include the storage ring´s dipole and quadrupole magnets and the various magnet systems of the booster synchrotron, which have an oscillating magnetic field and hence need power supplies with the capability of storing appreciable amounts of magnetic energy. The specialised requirements for the DC power supplies of the high frequency klystron valves, which generate the radiofrequency power needed for acceleration, are also considered
