Abstract
This paper describes the operation and application of closed cycle vapor turbogenerators (CCVT) which have been used at thousands of remote telecommunication locations over the past 15 years. The hermetically sealed Rankine-cycle system has only one moving part which rides on fluid bearings, eliminating metal-to-metal contact and wear, and, in turn, permitting the turbine to run continuously for 20 years without any overhauls and with very little maintenance. Because of its high reliability and simplicity, a number of telecommunication companies and administrations consider the self-contained power system to be the most appropriate power source in the 300 to 3000 watt power range.
