Abstract :
Results of measurement and simulation of Q-penalty due to PMD in 10 Gbps systems are presented and discussed. It is shown that 10 ps of fibre PMD will give rise to a 1 dB system penalty at 10 Gbps. This confirms that a specification of 05 ps/√km is justified for 400 km long 10 Gbps systems
