Abstract :
This paper presents experiments that quantitatively identify the different regimes and apply the newly gained understanding to a detailed investigation of the probe beam reshaping by the nonlinear "electronic" lens, as a function of laser beam power, detuning, and beam waist position relative to the atomic sample. The results are in good qualitative agreement with a simple model based on a two-level atom approach.
