Abstract :
The assessment of the moisture content of solid biological fuel is essential for quality control of the combustibles. Common moisture content measurement methods are time consuming and/or can be applied only after sample extraction. The paper presents a novel measurement method for measuring the gross density of solids and the moisture content for materials with known dry material density. Practical measurements are performed using wood pellets at different moisture levels demonstrating the capability of the method for density and moisture measurements.
