Abstract :
Mainframe computers are still the exclusive domain of bipolar technology. In the near future, however, it is believed a large-scale liquid-nitrogen cooled CMOS computer system may Become available. Liquid nitrogen temperature (77°K) operation economically combines bipolar speeds with MOS circuit densities and power levels. Changing the ambient temperature raises additional issues including packaging, testing and reliability.
