Abstract
This experiment investigates coherent light emission by self-induced spatial longitudinal patterns in an optically cooled Rb85 molasses. This work adapts the CARL model to include a ring cavity while taking into account the specific nature of the interaction with the Doppler beams (noise included). Taking advantage of the very different natural time scales present in the experiment, the dimensionality of the problem has been reduced. The resulting, strongly reduced model, consists of a Fokker-Planck equation for the probability distribution of atomic positions and momenta, coupled to two ordinary differential equations describing the evolution of the counter propagating fields in the resonator.
