Abstract :
The present paper deals with design and development of an electronically steerable multi beam antenna system for long-range 3D surveillance radars. The design and development of ultra low side lobe level antenna integrated with shaped beam former to give a cosec2 shaped distribution and an MMIC based electronically steerable receive beam former is detailed. The electronically steerable multi beam antenna system designed and developed gave a very low side lobe narrow beam in azimuth (Peak SLL < -40 dB, Average SLL < -50 dB), shaped beam in elevation during transmit for the required coverage and multiple steerable beams of varying beam widths (SLL < -30 dB) simultaneously in elevation during receive from a single aperture.
