Preface

1^st International Symposium on Physics and Technology of Sensors (ISPTS-1) was held between 8^th to 10 March 2012. This was organized after the successful organizations of 16 events of “National Seminar on Physics and Technology of Sensors” (NSPTS) for last 16 years (between 1994 to 2011) in order to propagate the activity internationally. The program consisted of 21 plenary talks by eminent scientists from various countries and 200 contributory papers. Contributory papers were selected for presentation in the symposium on the basis of the extended abstracts received from the contributors. In order to give young researchers the opportunity to get exposed to the current research in the field, only 10% of the received contributory papers of very low quality were rejected.
