Abstract :
Conditions for the experimental achievement of 2D bright solitons are discussed. These analytic predictions are supported by direct numerical simulations of the NLSE. The scattering of two solitons is then discussed both in 1D and 2D conditions. The dipolar interaction is shown to lead to an inelastic soliton scattering. Finally, we discuss the experimental creation of the solitons, arid the feasibility for the observation of the discussed effects in experiments in ultracold atoms and molecules.
