Abstract :
Triport transformer with a series circuit of a reactor and two antiparallel thyristors connected in parallel with its output port keeps output voltage constant by controlling the firing angle of the thyristors. However the controlled constant voltage regulator will bring an instability problem and this imposes limits on its usefulness. This shortcoming is completely eliminated by making use of the magnetic amplifier control to the thyristors. The circuit construction of this AVR and the experimental results are presented.
