  • Abstract
    This interdisciplinary and practice-led research investigates principles of all-dielectric metamaterials from a textile design perspective, exploring surface manipulation techniques such as laser cutting and digital embroidery to achieve surfaces that can be considered as continuous in X band frequencies. First results for three-dimensional paper structures have been obtained using a purpose built anechoic chamber for free space measurements at 8-12 GHz. For comparison purposes, a parallel plate capacitor system provides preliminary permittivity results for 1-30 MHz for embroidered cotton. This work-in-progress paper introduces material prototypes and permittivity measurements to verify the feasibility of the methodology.
