Megasil Soundproofed Diesel Generating Set

SIP-Società Italiana per l´Esercizio delle Telecomunicazioni p.a. and ITALTEL s.p.a. have specified and developed primary generation units using diesel generating sets (d.g.s.) installed in masonry structures for many years. The increasing need for the availability of a local emergency a.c. source, due to the growth of new electronic system in telecommunications which need air-conditioning, have led to the design of a compact integrated d.g.s., ready for installation in any type of environment, highly reliable and at competitive costs in comparison with traditional solutions. The paper described the MEGASIL ® d.g.s. enclosed in stainless containers for open-air installation, highly soundproofed, complete with command and control panel, chanical accessories and fuel tank. Subsequently, the performances and characteristics are described and in particular the innovative aspects, witch are patented, which have permitted to obtain the performances, the high sound proofing level, the compatibility and the respect for the environment, whereas thermal needs of the d.g.s. and the necessary reliability of the system.
