Abstract :
The most critical phases of flight for an aircraft are approach and landing. The aircraft must safely reduce its height and speed and, at the same time, maintain the correct attitude for both longitudinal and lateral motion. For complete safety, it is also necessary to maintain directional control. If it is assumed that lateral and directional control can be accomplished, it is essential to co-ordinate the change in the aircraft´s height with the necessary reduction in its forward speed. In a modern high performance aircraft, which is generally characterized by high landing speed, it is often necessary to provide systems to control the airspeed and aircraft attitude. In this paper, these systems are combined with a height control system in an integrated flight control system to achieve safe landing with minimum energy at touchdown
