  • Abstract
Recently, it was demonstrated that the thermal lens (TL) technique could be used for upconversion parameter (γ) determination. It was observed in Cr3+-doped fluoride crystals (LiSrAlF6 and LiSrGaF6) (in non-lasing conditions), that the extra heat generated by ETU leads to a strong TL effect which increases nonlinearly with pump laser power. The aim of this work is the determination of γ and its effect on η of Nd-doped materials using the TL spectrometry. The study was performed in three sets of glasses (phosphate (Q-98), fluoroindate (PGIZCa), and fluorozirconate (ZBLAN)) with four different Nd concentrations, and one Nd:YLF crystal.
